Textual Fluidity in Parabiblical Literature

The regular meeting of the research unit 'Corpus Judaeo-Hellenisticum Novi Testamenti digital' at the Saxon Academy of Sciences, with a lecture by David Cielontko (Prague).

Dr. David Cielontko (Charles University, Prague) will introduce his new project on parabiblical texts and their transmission, engaging in a discussion with the participants: The parabiblical works occupy the gaps in the narrative worlds of the biblical books and fill them with life by narration. Their manuscript tradition is generally not uniform, exhibiting both conscious and unconscious variations. Today, the search for the 'original' text is replaced by the comprehensive inclusion of all textual variants, not least with the help of digital tools. This aims to provide a complete picture. But what challenges does this present in practice?

The lecture will be held via Zoom. In-person attendance is also possible in the consultation room of the Faculty of Theology. The Zoom link is available upon request from Dr. Nicole Oesterreich.
