Nicole Oesterreich studied Protestant theology in Leipzig and Jena. After completing her studies, she wrote her doctoral dissertation on cognitive and neuroscientific insights and their application to biblical vision texts at the University of Leipzig. Since 2024, she has been directing CJHNTdigital at the Saxon Academy of Sciences in Leipzig. Her habilitation project focuses on Pauline eschatology in First Corinthians against the backdrop of early Jewish texts.

In addition to ancient Jewish literature, ancient vision literature, emotions, and cognitive narratology, her research also focuses on recent approaches to Pauline interpretation.

Nicole Oesterreich also works with information technology, particularly exploring how language models can be applied in biblical studies, and with digital humanities.

She volunteers as a lay preacher in the Saxon State Church.
