Church Slavonic Sources of Ben Sira and the Prospects of the Critical Edition of the Early Church Slavonic Translation

Lecture on 02/06/2026 at 1 pm (CEST) by Dr. Aleksandr Sizikov from Saint Petersburg

He will make an overview of his findings (3 independent translations and the archeography), focus on the earliest translation of X-XI centuries and its revisions and its impact for the reconstruction of the Greek text. He will also try to make a short overview of the manuscripts containing Ben Sira and other Wisdom Literature, since it might help to see the spiritual needs of the late Medieval Slavic Orthodoxy in various parts of Pax Slavia Orthodoxa.

The lecture will take place in person at the Faculty of Theology in room 409 and will also be streamed via Zoom. You will receive the link from Dr. Nicole Oesterreich.

This research project is part of the Academies' Programme, which is currently the largest long-term research programme in the humanities and cultural sciences in the Federal Republic of Germany and is funded by the federal and state governments. This programme is co-financed by tax revenue on the basis of the budget approved by the Saxon state parliament.
